TUTORIAL WITH DIANA HARRISON

Post Tutorial Thinking / Actions :

References to explore:

- Fiddle Quilts & Memory Objects (textiles for wellbeing)
- Padded Objects & Clothing (the idea of protection, suppression)
- Boulders and Rocks (natural forms)

Ideas for Development:

- expand on the idea that these could textiles for wellbeing
- expand on the the of distortion of shape you already have in some of the stitched samples - mix the layers for example stitch, print, stitch, print again,  offset layers
- a photographic series showing the stages from flat to three dimensional (narrative)
- combine fabrics (stiffer and more soft fabrics)
- include texture - wool felt?
- as well as making objects, look for found objects

Technical Improvements:

- get a blacker black
- potentially work with some opaque binder and pigment so there is a variety of textures
- really get to grips with what kind of line you're aiming for. everything in your samples needs to be deliberate, if your use torn edges they need to be convincing, if you use smooth edges they need to be the smoothest lines ever

Positives to continue with:

- the idea of positive and negative - this immediately creates a discourse, the samples are talking to each other
- weighted cloth

Other actions:

- think about what your end goal is / think about what you want to show at New Designers
- be open to more domestic scale contexts
- photograph things - get the camera to do your looking
- keep painting!
