TPP2 Tutorial 4 (1-2-1 with Diana Harrison)
Monday 22nd March
Pre Tutorial Critical Reflection -
List 3 priorities below to discuss at your tutorial:
- Currently working on screen layers in illustrator
- Inspired by an offshoot of sugar work - how dye behaves in water * see images in submission
During your Tutorial:
- 'the left behind'
- the start of life versus the end of life *petri dishes - infertility
- how does memory work in this? - could this bring it down to a human scale
- reference - Matthew Harris - Stroud Textile Festival
- you want to capture that images of dye in water on a surface - try some dye experiments on wet and dry paper, handmade paper?
- remember to keep documenting and filming your process
- think about residues, stains
- look at some images of porous clay and cracked clay - what traces lay left behind?
- could you use oil and water to create patterns on cloth- where the oil is the dye & water will resist
- play with media & medium
- for the Devore could you burnt the edges, laser cut the holes, use hot metal stamps?
Post Tutorial Critical Reflection:
Personal comments
- There was definitely a sombre feeling within society at the point of this tutorial and a heaviness that weighed upon many. speaking to Diana about he events of the previous week regarding Sarah Everard, there was a sense that sometimes something can disappear but no void is left - the space is very much full
- the notion of grief as activism , sadness as action
Priorities/Tasks
- Water, oil and dye experiments
- Exploration of devoré
- Once in the studio next week- document everything
